JOB SUMMARY:
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for delivering care within his/her license and training to Clinic patients as outlined in approved care protocols and under the supervision of a licensed physician.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Responsible to: Behavioral Health Clinic Director
            Positions Directly Supervised: None
            Regular Contact with: All Rural Health personnel, Physicians, and the public.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible for providing psychiatric services to patients in an outpatient setting such as outpatient psychiatric evaluations and medication management services
  2. Assess, diagnose, and treat adults, adolescents, and children experiencing symptoms of behavioral health disorder(s)
  3. Prescribe, recommend, and discontinue drugs and treatments to treat mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders in accordance with the Collaborative Practice Agreement and the state’s Nurse Practice Act
  4. Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and other treatment team members to coordinate patient care
  5. Counsel clients during appointments, if necessary
  6. Design/participate in the development of individualized treatment plans, incorporating best and leading practices into treatment interventions
  7. Prepare and submit assessments, progress notes, reports, and summaries to entities/agencies as required
  8. Responsible for making independent decisions based on protocols developed utilizing national guidelines for treatment interventions
  9. Educate patients and their family members about metal health conditions and treatment options
  10. Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential patient records in accordance with organizational policies and legal requirements
  11. Complete psychiatric progress notes, treatment plans, and other documentation
  12. Follows all Franklin Medical Center and departmental policies including participation in reviewing/revising departmental policies yearly.
  13. Provide services in accordance with all departmental policies.
  14. Participate in regular trainings, conferences, and other professional development activities
  15. Stay current with developments in psychiatric care, medication management, and therapeutic interventions
  16. All other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
  • Valid and active Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Louisiana  
  • Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center

Work Experience:
  • Experience is desired but not required.

  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively when completing several tasks at once

  • Ability to accept constructive criticism and respond appropriately
  • Proficient with computers and ability to learn computer software

Physical Requirements: 
  • Remain in a stationary position for long periods of time
  • Occasionally move about the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Position self to maintain files in file cabinets
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery such as computer printers, scanner, etc.
  • Ability to observe details at close range
  • Ability to move boxes, equipment, etc. up to 10 pounds across the office for various needs

Has exposure to blood borne pathogens.
