POSITION: MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST
DEPARTMENT: LAB
FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
This is a Full Time Medical Technologist position in the Lab at Franklin Medical Center. The schedule will be Monday - Thursday, 12PM- 10PM. No Weekends.
JOB SUMMARY: To provide specimen processing, test performance and results reporting that
are authorized by the Laboratory Director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the
incumbent’s education, training or experience and technical capabilities.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
- Responsible to the Laboratory Director

- Regular Contact with all hospital departments and the public

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Follow the laboratory procedure for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Maintain records that demonstrate the proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
- Adhere to the laboratory quality control policies; document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
- Follow established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problem or immediately notify the Laboratory Director.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
- All other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Must possess an Associates or Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology and be licensed in the State of Louisiana.
Work Experience: Two years of experience is desired.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read and write effectively
- Ability to multitask when completing several tasks at once
- Strong organizational skills
- Integrity and discretion when working with sensitive company and personnel information
- Detailed oriented
- Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office.
Physical Requirements:
- Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
- Occasionally move about the office and facility campus to access various departments and patient care areas.
- Constantly position self to maintain equipment and provide patient care
- Constantly operates a computer, office and Lab machinery
- Ability to communicate information accurately so others will understand.
- Ability to observe details at close range.
- Frequently move boxes, equipment, etc. weighing up to 20 pounds across office for various needs.
OSHA EXPOSURE CATEGORY: A Have exposure to blood borne pathogens.
