JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for assisting patients and their families with financial matters related to their healthcare. This includes providing estimates of costs, explaining insurance benefits, verifying coverage, discussing payment plans, identifying financial assistance programs, and ensuring the accurate collection of patient financial data prior to or during the course of care.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Responsible to: Director of Patient Financial Services
            Positions Directly Supervised: None
            Regular Contact with: All hospital and clinic personnel, Physicians, and the public.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Review Census daily to identify self-pay patients and discuss available financial options.
  2. Promptly notify Admissions Director when Insurance is discovered and/or approved so patient account(s) will be updated for billing.
  3. Review open account reports and identify accounts eligible for any financial assistance programs currently offered, contact and review financial options with patient and obtain proper documentation for financial determination.
  4. Submit monthly Medicaid eligibility reports to identify missed coverage
  5. Assist Financial Services Clerk (AR Clerk) with payment posting and daily deposits when needed. Will fill in for AR Clerk when needed.
  6. Receive and post patient payments. Print receipt for each payment received.
  7. Print and mail itemized statements as requested.
  8. Gather billing documentation and submit Workers’ Compensation and Liabiilty claims to third party vendors
  9. Assist anyone with bill related questions or direct to correct contact.
  10. Create and maintain payment plans and ACH payments.
  11. Maintain and scan accurate records, logs and files pertaining to all financial assistance applicants.
  12. Up-to-date knowledge on State and Federal regulations and guidelines.
  13. Collaborate with administration and third-party managing service providers to develop, plan, organize and implement current and future strategies to market services, enroll customers, bill customers, process payments, minimize bad debt, and improve cash flow.
  14. Assist patients with the completion and submission of Medicaid applications
  15. Educate registration staff on upfront collection processes, as needed
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Will be required to complete the Louisiana Medicaid Representative Training Program.

Work Experience:
Experience in the healthcare field and knowledge of health insurance, Medicare/Medicaid, and financial assistance programs is preferred.

  • Proficient with computers and ability to learn computer software

Physical Requirements: 
  • Remain in a stationary position for long periods of time
  • Occasionally move about the facility to access various departments and patient care areas
  • Position self to maintain files in file cabinets and use office equipment such as printers, scanners, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery such as computer printers, scanner, etc.
  • Ability to observe details at close range
  • Ability to move boxes, equipment, etc. up to 10 pounds across the office for various needs

OSHA EXPOSURE CATEGORY A:     
Has exposure to blood borne pathogens.
