JOB SUMMARY:
Cares for patients in the Orthopedic Clinic under direction of nursing staff by performing the following job functions.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Responsible to:
Director of Orthopedic Clinic

Positions Directly Supervised:
None

Regular Contact with:
All clinic staff, hospital staff, physicians, patients, and patient family members.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Maintains confidentiality of all information regarding employees, patients, medical staff, hospital business, etc.;
  2. Follows infection control protocols;
  3. Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc., to supervisor immediately;
  4. Performs various functions on computer as necessary with minimal errors;
  5. Clean rooms in between patients;
  6. Ensures supplies have been replenished in work areas and exam rooms as necessary;
  7. Orders supplies from purchasing and pharmacy when necessary;
  8. Organize and maintain patient charts (filing and proper documentation)
  9. Process Ortho Clinic referrals
  10. Process surgical clearances;
  11. Liaise with the Orthopedist in booking patients’ appointments in line with their schedule to facilitate smooth flow of operations.
  12. Triage patients (verifies patient information, medical history, allergies, and purpose of visit);
  13. Obtains and records patient's vital signs, weight, blood pressure, height and temperature;
  14. Prepare patients for examination, escort them to the treatment from and be present during examination/treatment to assist the physician in treatment procedures.
  15. Suture removals, staple removals, casting, and minor wound care;
  16. Provides care as directed, including but not limited to obtaining blood specimens, dressing wounds, injection administration, and other requested duties;
  17. Demonstrates all Orthopedic Clinic products for proper use by patient;
  18. Reviews physician's orders, lab requests, or follow-up needs with patient;
  19. Responds to patient telephone inquiries;
  20. Schedules appointments;
  21. Forwards clinic notes to patient’s referring provider;
  22. Follows up with patients on test results, including the scheduling of any additional tests;
  23. Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION:
Education and Training: High School Diploma or equivalent, and graduate of a Medical Assistant Program; Certified with American Association of Medical Assistants.
Work Experience:     One (1) year of experience preferred, but not required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Knowledge of computers and office equipment; chemistry, anatomy and biology: must be understanding and considerate to the patient's needs; good communication/phone skills; possess the ability to be flexible; team player.
Physical Requirements:   Must be professional and well-groomed. Interacts well with the public. Able to work efficiently and effectively. Must present a positive and pleasant attitude
OSHA EXPOSURE CATEGORY:  A – has exposure to blood borne pathogens.
