POSITION:                            OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

DEPARTMENT:                  PHYSICAL THERAPY

FLSA STATUS:                   NON-EXEMPT

SCHEDULE: PART TIME 3 DAYS A WEEK. 24 HOURS A WEEK

JOB SUMMARY:
The occupational therapist is responsible for evaluating, planning, and administering occupational therapy treatment plans designed to help restore body functions that have been compromised by a health condition. 

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:


  • Responsible to the therapy supervisor and/or director of rehabilitation services
  • Regular contact with physicians, therapists, nurses and patients

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
 
  1. Provides skilled occupational therapy treatment plans in accordance with physician orders and by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results of patients.
  2. Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs, instructing patients, recommending and/or providing assistive equipment, and recommending follow-up programs.
  3. Promptly and thoroughly document and maintain clinical and administrative records regarding patient limitations/interventions, treatments, responses and progress to administered therapy, as well as discharge summaries.
  4. Maintain patient confidentiality, with records and treatment sessions.
  5. Completes daily notes and charges in an accurate and timely manner.
  6. Supervises and directs occupational therapy assistants in patient care and related activities.
  7. Complies with all federal and state codes and regulations.
  8. Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct at all times.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.




QUALIFICATIONS:
           
            Education:
 
  • Graduate from an Accredited Occupational Therapy Program
  • Licensure: Current/Unrestricted Louisiana State Occupational Therapy License
  • Certification: CPR Certification for Health Care Providers

            Work Experience:
 
  • Desired, but not required

            Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 
  • Strong customer/patient skills
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational therapy principles and practices
  • Knowledge of electronic health records
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be an effective time manager and multi-tasker

Physical Requirements: 
 
  • Frequent lifting, up to 50lbs, and assisting with patient transfers/mobility
  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
  • Frequent movement throughout the rehab, physical therapy areas and various hospital departments and patient care areas
  • Kneeling, bending, squatting, reaching, and twisting to assist patients, set up equipment, obtain supplies, and/or provide patient care
  • Frequent operation of computer, office, and therapy equipment
  • Ability to push/pull wheelchairs, beds, or patient lifts
  • Requires good hand high coordination and manual dexterity for handling therapeutic tools
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to evaluate patient status and respond to emergency situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Physical stamina to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
